Lime, E-Bikes have been in the news lately (see our article E-Bike and E-Scooter Accidents: The Growing Risk for Pedestrians) relating one of the world’s largest electric bike and scooter sharing companies, with a large base in London, is preparing to list on the New York Stock Exchange in a move that could value the business at more than 500 million dollars.
The company, which operates in over 280 cities globally, including several major UK locations, such as London and Liverpool has reportedly hired Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan to support its initial public offering. This follows a strong financial rebound, with net revenue rising to 686 million dollars in 2024 and its UK division reporting a pre tax profit of 2.1 million pounds.
Founded in 2017, Lime has become a fixture in the growing micromobility sector, helping millions of users access short distance travel options. However, the company’s rapid expansion has also drawn criticism. Local authorities in London and elsewhere have raised concerns about e bikes being abandoned on pavements, creating hazards for pedestrians and contributing to urban clutter.
Beyond these logistical challenges, there are also serious safety concerns. With more electric bikes and scooters in public use than ever before, there has been a rise in road traffic incidents involving both riders and pedestrians.
