Have You Been Involved in a Boris Bike Accident?

Is Cycling In London Safe?

There have been a number of recently reported incidents involving Barclays-sponsored ‘Boris Bikes’. The Barclays Cycle Hire scheme is a public bicycle sharing scheme with special ‘Supercycle Highway’ bicycle routes designed to offer ‘safer, faster and more direct journeys into the city’ according to Transport For London. However, doubts have arisen as to the claims of ‘safer’ journeys following the rapid rise in cycling accidents, with 364 injuries involving Barclays hire bikes from 2010 to January 2013 alone.

London, like other traffic-dense cities, is a perilous place for cyclists, and with the introduction of the scheme, there are more and more incidents of personal injury and death as the number of regular cyclists soars. Cyclists are vulnerable and have little protection when involved in a collision, especially from more dangerous traffic like HGV’s, heavy vans and lorries which are involved in 4 out of 10 cycling accidents.
